Blessings for 2023

We wish you all a Happy and Blessed New Year! Last year ended with some challenges and losses. We also experienced many, many blessings in 2022. We begin this new year with the realization that life is fragile, but our Lord knows and remembers our frailty and is our Rock and Refuge, come what may! Psalm 103, Psalm 18

Brian is once again heading south with meat orders on Wednesday. Yes, this Wednesday, January 18th. Hopefully most of you already knew he was coming via his Telegram channel, but if not you still have an opportunity to order meat today. I am sorry I didn’t post this last week. I have been quite busy making cheese, in addition to all the other happenings around here, since our milk cow had her calf! (Some of you have asked for milk in the past, but we do not sell any of our dairy products.)

Meet Mackie, the adorable little Jersey calf
He’s a rambunctious little fellow, butting his head into unsuspecting milkers!

This new year brings a few small changes to the quarter and half beef/pork orders. In the past, offals, suet and oxtail would be included in your quarter or half animal order directly from sausage factory if you requested them. However, these items are not included in the hanging weight of the animal, which is the basis for your price (essentially you were getting them for free). We also weren’t being charged a packaging fee for them. Going forward, we will be paying Sausage Factory a cutting & wrapping fee for these, and we will only be selling them separately. This should eliminate any confusion about where all the offals went (we’ve been having a bit of that!) as well as giving customers who order by the piece more opportunity to purchase them. Offals and oxtail are pretty popular!

We have expanded our product line slightly. A fresh batch of tallow balm is available for purchase, in addition to some new soaps. The balm is mostly grass fed tallow (of course!) with some added shea butter, and then a bit of comfrey oil I made in the summer, some vitamin E oil as a preservative, and Orange and Lavender essential oils for scent (because quite frankly, tallow and comfrey do not smell nice!)

For those who really enjoy making their own products, I hope to put up a recipes page sometime soon. I find making my own skincare products, just like cooking from scratch, very rewarding, and I’m guessing some of you do as well.

The barn kitties say hello on a frosty afternoon

For those who would still like to place an order for this Wednesday, please try to have your orders in by tonight, Monday January 16.

Please note that our pork will not be ready until next month. Sausage Factory is currently processing it for us. We’re looking forward to bacon!

Thank you once again to all our customers! It’s a blessing to be able to provide you with a homegrown, quality product, and we look forward to serving you again (or for the first time) this year.

~ Blessings, Brian & Anne Marie & family
